i most like the blue fingers concept (1), i like that it is not obvious straight away (i don't feel very well putting type with it thought). can you seen the five "f"s as well?!
i also like the no 2 one but i feel is a bit too corporate. i like it looks like a crown, posh ish.
i like the word sormet, how the type stands by itsesf- its a small word and letters work very nice together.
i couldn't think any logo for the five fingers discound.
(3) is written on a typewritter, its a bit out of the blue, and very chilled- not much effort.

by the way every greek word used in english as well that has an "f" in it, it's spelt with "ph" instead of "f" : phone, elephant, phaidon,...

hey guys,

all we need is a team name to send out to clients, so postage your ideas and we'll take a vote! Also was trying to see where charities would fit into the criteria of what type of design brief we can get - so maybe a publishing house or something like that would be better - i also like christina's idea of targetting something fashion related, or even just shop related and designing the shop front, layouts etc - that would fit in with the list uni have put on the letter!

I'm gonna brainstorm now and the will post ideas......

hi everyone again,

i really liked charities ide, i'm really up for it and have never worked on pefore, really like it! unfortunately i have no contacts in london that could possibly help. i also liked pete's name! good ideas you two!

And because i think that, and we have already proven it, this blog is not only for organising stuff i want to comment on a comment that was describing the rough logo i posted as an information design thing. for our dialogue to keep on going i would like to complaign that this cannot be called information design as the figures-fingers represent (illustrate) the hand expressions of the specific language. it is clearly illustration to me and not information design. the sign language itself could possibly be described as a product of information design (in a wider sense) but the logo is only representing the language. a bit of theory conflict i think. i hope i clearly explained myself.

as for my engaged mood is because i'm in holidays! I'm in the island of Amorgos and having a very nice time, loads of positive energy so comin up with a lot of things to tell you every time, hope i'll keep in the same mood during the project as well. lol.



possibly the only place in greece that is not on fire at the moment. sad. tv for the last 4 days is proadcasting continiously the efforts of the firemen and government to put the fires out. more than one hundread fires are bursting out every 18 hours! a bit of opposites england-greece there.

what about targetting charities in london for a brief? something worth while and i've got contacts in tearfund - so might be worth all of us using any contacts in london?

Christina - do you think any places you've gone this summer for work exp may be worth contacting for a brief?

Great post nik, loads of ideas and things to think about - we do really need to get a wiggle on with asking for briefs - pete had an idea for a name - what about 'five finger discount' it was only a joke, but thought that'd be funny!

I think sending the pdf to companies rather than design agencies would be a great opportunity to prove our skills and be more real - like you said nik we're meant to be a design company!

cool - well guys (and i speak to myself) if we leave it any later to get a move on with this then we're gonna be stressed with getting a brief.... i'll send an email to everyone encase they're not checking the blog - lou suggested maybe we could arrange a web chat over msn or something so we can all communicate together, but dunno about the logistics of that....

hi everyone,

the sign language drawings are not designed by me. i just cut and pasted the letter forms in order to show my idea, it needs redesigninging if we finally go for it. feel free to do what ever you want with it.
the word "fingers" sounds a bit weak to me. even if it has an interesting concept we may need to add some extra substance to it.
i would also like to change the word "voice" to "sound". we definatelly need to have a voice, but no need no sound to express it.
what about dumb communication as a name?
i feel that the no sound concept has a lot to play around with. its very wide. cool.

i would really like to know what clients you are thinking about, and your criteria. what if we make a list of clients, on this blog. anything that we can think of(possibly post your ideas under this post). there is loads of perspectives.
i think we better not contact design agencies(designers) as we are supposed to be one ourselves. so i guess we are going for any sort of companies. i would definatelly go for bigger ones first or to make it more precise for most popular ones.
the best way, i think, would be to suggest specific ideas to the companies, for ex we think your logo needs changing and we suggest this, or what about a promotional campaign on this subject. i'm not sure about how much time we have to do something like that though. we need to emphasize on how they are going to say "yes". so we really need to show that we know what we are doing.
i would personally send emails to all the arts publishers. its an idustry that i'm interested in and would possibly be able to give as briefs such as designing a book.

Seeking a Brief

Can everyone post their ideas for a logo and group name by next wednesday or thursday if possible? As once we're decided we can then email different clients in london. I was talking with Louise last night and we thought it would be a good idea to cross reference the clients we would like to email and then delegate between us so we have a fair work load and we're keeping it a bit organised etc etc!!

Getting Started

Hey Guys,

Just a starting post to get it all going with this project...

I'm sure you're all aware that we dont have a whole lot of time left to get started and to email people to get a brief... before that i think we need to sort out a group name and logo so that we'll look more official etc.
